9AM Wake Up Calls, Cloudy Rays and High Score Wins, Right? (AKA Day 3)

Day 3 of our 30th Anniversary Trip and let me just say — we’re still living our best “slow and sacred” life over here. 💗
We started the day with something that shocked everyone, including us:
We slept in.
Kevin, who’s normally up by 7AM, and me — your girl who’s usually up at 5AM — were still snoring at 9AM. How did we find out the time? Brandon called to check in and said, “Mom, I didn’t even know you COULD sleep that late!” 😂Same, son. Same.
We rolled out of bed in disbelief, had a little fruit in the room for breakfast, and settled into a quiet time of Bible study and prayer. 🕊️It was peaceful and slow and full of gratitude — just how a milestone trip should feel.
☁️ After that, we headed to the pool to soak in some “cloudy rays” — it was warm and overcast, and kind of perfect. Kevin got in and swam (yes, really!), while I stayed poolside, just relaxing, watching the clouds drift, and enjoying the peace. It was his turn to splash and float while I cheered him on from the lounge chair. 💦
Later in the afternoon, we decided to spice things up with a little mini golf.
Now, let me explain something: Kevin always wins. Like, by a lot. But today? 🎉 This girl held her own! He even tried to quit at hole 9 because the heat had me melting like a chocolate bar in a glove box. But I was like, “No way. I came to play.” So, we finished all 18 like the champions we are. Did I win? No. But it wasn’t a total putt-putt disaster either. Granny still got it. 💪⛳
Dinner was Big Daddy’s Pizzeria, and y’all… that dough? Crispy. Chewy. Delicious. 🍕We were both impressed and happily brought back a mountain of leftovers that may or may not make it to breakfast tomorrow.
(And then of course, in true anniversary-trip fashion… we ordered ice cream. Because duh.) 🍨
We also checked in on our sweet girl Honey Bunny 🐶 — who had her "lady surgery" today and is officially rocking the Cone of Shame. She’s not feeling her best. If you’ve ever had your innards operated on, you know it’s not pretty. Poor baby is recovering, and we’re sending all the snuggly vibes her way.
Through it all, we’ve stuck to our theme:
✨ Slow. Rested. Present. Together.
No rushing. No noise. Just peace, play, and purpose — with snacks, poolside naps, and a little mini-golf sass thrown in.
If Day 3 had a slogan, it’d be:
“Cloudy rays, cone of shame, and a granny who didn’t totally lose at mini golf.”
Y'all, God is so good! Even on days you sleep in! Thank Him every day for cloudy rays! Then, thank Him again for a husband who still lets you be a little "extra" sometimes, even after 30 years!!!
Still holding hands (and leftover pizza),
—Melissa 💕
