Slowing, Down Soaking It In, and Life Changing Deep Fried Corn on the Cob
Today was exactly what my soul needed. 🩷
After yesterday’s whirlwind of melons, misplaced cats, and the feast at Applewood Smokehouse Restaurant, we made a very intentional choice: slow it wayyyy down today.
And it. was. glorious. 🙌
We started the morning with Bible study and prayer — no alarms, no rushing, just the Word and some stillness. The kind of quiet that speaks louder than noise. The kind of peace you forget you’re missing until you finally have it again. 🕊️
After that, it was pool time! ☀️
💦I tanned (a little), swam (a little), and soaked in the sun like a biscuit in gravy. Kevin stayed in the shade looking all sensible while I lived my best summer life. 😎
🌬️ Then we came back to the room to cool down. That hotel A/C is working overtime and deserves an award. I’m not saying I stood in front of it like a dog on a hot porch… but I’m not saying I didn’t. 😂
🍖 For dinner, we went to Bennett’s BBQ, and let me just say: I may still be thinking about that food in my dreams tonight. I got the fried corn on the cob as my side and… y’all… it was life-changing. Like crispy, salty, juicy, perfectly golden magic. I would go back just for that corn. Seriously. 🌽🔥
🛍️ After dinner, we did a tiny bit of shopping (I was well-behaved… mostly), and then headed back for my favorite part of the evening:
📖 Bible study
🍫 A snack
📚 And my Rise-Up class — the perfect mix of truth, challenge, and encouragement.
Meanwhile back at home, Jackson is probably stretched across my side of the bed with zero shame. 🐾Whiskie is likely redecorating the office with her signature “knock it all off the desk” method. 😼I’m telling you… they act fine until I leave, and then they get dramatic.
But for now — I’m soaking in this slower rhythm.
Letting my heart breathe.
Letting the Lord speak in ways I wouldn’t have heard if I’d been rushing.
Here’s to Day 2:
✨ Fried corn, poolside peace, and a whole lot of Jesus.
Still snacking, still learning, still incredibly grateful,
—Melissa 💕
